Jonathon Heyward

Biography

Already a rising conductor in Britain, where he was partly trained, and in continental Europe, Jonathon Heyward was named music director of the Baltimore Symphony in 2022. After graduating, Heyward became the assistant conductor of the Hallé Orchestra and music director of the Hallé Youth Orchestra. Heyward became the music director of the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie in Herford, Germany, in 2021. The following year, he was heard with violinist Rachel Barton Pine on the album Violin Concertos by Black Composers Through the Centuries, and he was named the music director-designate of the Baltimore Symphony, succeeding Marin Alsop with a five-year contract beginning in 2023.
